Oryx Game Lodge - Accommodation (Hunters)

Location: Oryx Lodge, Kroonstad, Free State, South Africa

Welcome to Oryx Lodge, where the rhythm of hooves and the whisper of wind blend seamlessly.
Our charming farmstead invites you to pedal through the soul-stirring farmlands of the Free State.
Whether you’re an avid cyclist or a family seeking a memorable weekend, the Farmstead Ride promises an enchanting journey. Here’s what awaits you:

Route Information:

Three Distances, One Unforgettable Experience:

  • The Oryx Trail: ( 285km - 24 Hours )

    • The oryx, with its majestic horns and desert-adapted resilience, symbolizes endurance and determination.
    • During the Oryx Trail riders venture through the night, guided by the silent presence of these magnificent creatures. Just as the oryx thrives in harsh conditions, cyclists push their limits under the vast Free State sky.

  • Cowherd’s Canter (154km):

    • Cows represent the rhythm of the land—the gentle sway of pastures, the contentment of grazing, and the connection to nature.
    • In the Cowherd’s Canter riders pedal alongside these bovine companions. Their eyes reflect the constellations above, reminding us of our place in the cosmic tapestry.

  • Sheepfold Spin (74km):

    • Sheep evoke a sense of simplicity, community, and the pastoral life. They graze peacefully, their wool blending with the fields.
    • The Sheepfold Spin takes cyclists through winding paths, where the symphony of crickets and the arching Milky Way create a canvas of stars—a reminder that even in simplicity, there’s cosmic beauty.

The Farmstead Lite MTB Challenge 40km

Is a sister event to the renowned Farmstead Ultra, designed for riders seeking a shorter, yet equally scenic and exhilarating mountain biking experience.
This 40km route will take participants through the picturesque Oryx Game Lodge and farmlands of the Free State, offering a perfect blend of challenging terrain and breathtaking views.

General Information:

 Stargazing Pit Stops:

  • At strategic intervals, pause and look up. The Farmstead Route offers designated stargazing pit stops. Lay your bike down gently, tilt your head back, and lose yourself in the cosmic tapestry. The Milky Way stretches like a silver river, and constellations tell stories of ancient heroes and mythical creatures.

 Farm-to-Table Experience:

  • Fear not, intrepid rider! Support stations await, providing nourishment, encouragement, and a sense of community. Rest stops at local farms offer fresh, homemade snacks and beverages. Cyclists get a taste of the region’s bounty while supporting local businesses.

 Race Villages by Moonlight:

  • As you reach each race village, the moon illuminates the scene. Rest under the eaves of old barns, where wooden beams creak with history. Hydrate with fresh well water, and share tales with fellow riders. The farm dogs wag their tails, welcoming you to their nocturnal world.

 Midnight Munchies:

  • In the heart of the night, we offer warm farm-style soup, hearty stews, and homemade bread. Savor the flavors as you sit on hay bales, surrounded by the soft glow of lanterns.
